There’s a big push on in the building industry for interior and exterior designs to be more environmentally friendly. From eco-smart construction materials right down to the lighting selected for parking garages, lots and interior spaces, the need for low carbon footprint items that don’t compromise quality and performance is high. LED light fixtures are up to the challenge.

LED lighting fixtures are considered the superior choice over other standard fixture options, including incandescent, halogen and even fluorescent for several reasons. Here are just a few of the reasons why LED lighting fixtures are perfect for green designs:

  • They last longer – An average incandescent bulb has a functional life of about 1,250 hours of continuous use. After that, the bulb will no longer function and must be replaced. That involves replacement about once every 13 months or so for fixtures that are used 12 hours a day. On the other end of the spectrum, a standard LED lighting fixture will function for about 50,000 hours of continuous use. That adds up to a functional period that is nearly 11 years and five months. By requiring much less frequent replacement, these fixtures save not only money, but also in waste.
  • They use less electricity – The average electric cost for running halogen or incandescent bulbs is about $45 a year. While that might seem minimal, it can add up fast and represent a big draw on power when an entire array is required. LED lighting costs less than $5 a year to operate, which speaks to the significantly lower electric draw.

Making sure interior designs are greener and more environmentally friendly is a big concern in the building and design industry today. LED light fixtures deliver the properties needed while offering the potential for long-term savings and even return on investment.
