Property managers face a constant tug-of-war in balancing their budgets. The need to keep expenses low is simply a constant to protect the bottom line. When a money saving investment is desired, LED light fixtures garage models will deliver results. While it might seem hard to believe that a light fixture that has a price point that is significantly higher than a standard incandescent or halogen bulb will save money, the numbers tell the real story.
Replacing a standard 75-watt incandescent bulb that costs about $1 a pop with a $50 LED garage light fixture can save more than $400 over the course of the LED fixture’s anticipated lifespan. Here’s how:
- The lifespan of a typical LED light fixture will be significantly longer – A standard incandescent fixture will have a lifespan of about 1,250 hours. That means bulbs will have to be replaced about 3.5 times a year. A LED fixture for garage spaces, however, has an average lifespan of about 50,000 hours of use. That adds up to about 11 years, 4 months and 30 days if lights are utilized 12 hours a day.
- The cost of operation is much lower – Maintaining incandescent bulbs costs about $44.90 a year when the expenses associated with replacement, electricity, and labor are combined. For a LED garage light fixture, the price drops to about $4.97 a year, which is roughly what electricity will cost. The total operational costs associated with incandescent lights run about $513 over that 11-plus-year lifespan of the LED fixture. The cost associated with the LED fixture, however, is about $106.
- The breakeven point comes fast – Considering a LED garage light fixture will last more than 11 years, the breakeven point of 1 year, 2 months and 22 days comes pretty fast in its use.
LED light fixtures, garage managers will find, do cost more on the front end. The savings over traditional lighting, however, is significant.
