Room Cavity Ratio (RCR)

Environmental factor used in lighting design calculations. Cavity defined by the luminaire plane, task plane and the vertical wall area in between. The room cavity ratio is the ratio of vertical wall area to horizontal surface area, expressed by the formula: Room Cavity Ratio = (5 x Cavity Height x (Length + Width)) / Length x Width. If the room is irregular shaped, the formula is: Room Cavity Ratio = (2.5 x Cavity Height x Perimeter) / Area.
